MACC’s initial probe on the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in funds by the previous administration has revealed that only RM92.5 billion of a lower RM530 billion amount came from government sources.
As such, the anti-graft busters in a statement today said it will focus on investigating the smaller amount, contrary to initial reports lodged.
“Initial investigations found that the total estimated allocation amounted to RM530 billion.
Based on the amount, RM92.5 billion involved government funds while the remaining RM437.5 billion did not.
“Therefore, MACC’s investigations will be focused on the RM92.5 billion funds,” said MACC, three days after it first announced the probe.
“The Finance Ministry is in the process of detailing the breakdown (of funds) and will be submitting it to the MACC next week,” it added.
The MACC also revealed the funds were spent as part of economic incentive packages in 2020 and 2021 in relation to the management of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Online portal The Vibes, quoting sources, previously reported that the MACC as part of its probe is expected to call up Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin as then prime minister; International Trade and Industries Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as former finance minister, and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Muhyiddin had previously denied the allegations of misappropriation and declared his readiness to face any investigations.
Similarly, Zafrul yesterday said he has nothing to hide and will cooperate with the MACC if summoned.
